Enveloped Viruses: Pathogenetic Targets for Cyanobacterial Lectins
نویسندگان
چکیده
Lectins are a group of highly specific carbohydrate-binding proteins with wide spectrum action, involved in the so-called «first line» body defense. These unique biomolecules show high specificity for various mono- and oligosaccharides, primarily viral bacterial glycoconjugates. Cyanobacteria lectins effective against enveloped viruses an appealing alternative to existing synthetic drugs. Virtually complete absence resistance formation these compounds is known. The purpose this review analyze, summarize, discuss results experimental studies vivo vitro , illustrating mechanisms action antiviral effects obtained from cyanobacteria relation most dangerous socially significant viruses: SARS-Cov-2, HIV, Ebola viruses, influenza, hepatitis C. In addition, article outlines some challenges that must be overcome order obtain drugs future.

Glycosphingolipids as Receptors for Non-Enveloped Viruses
Glycosphingolipids are ubiquitous molecules composed of a lipid and a carbohydrate moiety. Their main functions are as antigen/toxin receptors, in cell adhesion/recognition processes, or initiation/modulation of signal transduction pathways. Microbes take advantage of the different carbohydrate structures displayed on a specific cell surface for attachment during infection. For some viruses, su...
متن کاملUncoating of non-enveloped viruses.
Non-enveloped viruses enclose their genome in capsids built of repetitive polypeptides interlinked with cementing proteins, divalent cations or disulphides. Interactions are broken in a stepwise manner during entry into cells leading to genome uncoating. Receptor or proteases induce conformational changes in case of rhinovirus, poliovirus or adenovirus, and thereby provide direct uncoating cues...
متن کاملSurvival of Enveloped and Non-Enveloped Viruses on Inanimate Surfaces
In the present study, we evaluated the viability of non-enveloped viruses, minute virus of mice (MVM) and coxsackievirus B4 (CVB4), and enveloped-viruses, influenza A virus (H1N1) and herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), on surfaces. We also investigated the impact of the initial concentration of proteins and sodium chloride on the persistence of infectious CVB4 on surfaces. Viral suspensions (...
متن کاملInfluenza A virus targets a cGAS-independent STING pathway that controls enveloped RNA viruses
Stimulator of interferon genes (STING) is known be involved in control of DNA viruses but has an unexplored role in control of RNA viruses. During infection with DNA viruses STING is activated downstream of cGAMP synthase (cGAS) to induce type I interferon. Here we identify a STING-dependent, cGAS-independent pathway important for full interferon production and antiviral control of enveloped RN...
متن کاملEndocytosis of Non-Enveloped DNA Viruses
Endocytosis is critical for the internalization and maturation of many DNA viruses. Since all non-enveloped DNA viruses replicate in the nucleus, they can also take advantage of endo‐ cytosis trafficking for transport from the cell surface to the nucleus. The internalization often involves clathrin-mediated endocytosis (ClaME), but also macropinycytosis, caveolae-medi‐ ated endocytosis (CavME) ...
